American Dream realized

I wasn't planning on saying anything real cheesy about getting our house after years of saving, months of searching, and a week of fighting... but then the key they gave us looked like this. We got the keys today and tomorrow we are going to start moving our stuff, doing prep work to paint on Sunday, and freezing our butts off because the gas is turned off until Monday. It is still real weird because we went through so much hassle this week, and because we have not moved in yet. I am sure it will seek in shortly. We are both excited and exhausted and looking forward to the future.

We got up early today and went and signed this whole mess of papers and handed over the checks. It wasn't as bad as we expected, partly becasue we had read al ot of the stuff before hand. To follow up on our U.S. Bank woes... apparently they are acknowldgin gthat our loan officer screwed up, and the underwriter, processors, and funder have really been working hard to fix things. It doesn't change the fact that we were put through a lot of unnecesary stress, but it is nice to know that things came together becasue some people at the bank actually care about delivering on their promises. We really appreciate all the work that has happened on our behalf to get things done on time. We also owe thanks to our realtors for really getting throguh the the higher ups after Christine softened them up on Wednesday. If everything goes according to plan we'll be getting our keys tonight!

Home Buying Hell (almost over)

This has been a stressful week. We have been fighting with our loan officer all week about getting to close on time. We have been asked to provide all kinds of paperwork this week that by all accounts should have been taken care of about two weeks ago. Our loan guy (who we can't stand) is being a weasel and trying to blame us for the delays. Christine spend most of Wednesday on the phone with the loan guy, his boss, leaving messages for their boss, and talking to the processor (who is the only person who appears to do any actual work). When Christine asked our loan guy direct questions about why we were not closing on time (which would require him to admit it was his fault) he sat on the phone silent and waited for her to say something. Luckily as Christine's anger level goes up so does her level of professionalism and verbal acuity so while it was a one sided conversation I am sure he was left wondering what just happened to him. After everything was said and done we are actually closing on time. We are going to sign all the papers tomorrow at 8:30 in the morning. We have a check for a bagillion dollars in a box on the shelf out of reach of Colin. Doing a google search for "U.S. Bank sucks" there are people who have had it worse than us. We are going to close on time (albeit on a much tighter time schedule than the title company would like) and it cost us several hours of pain and frustration for the pleasure of handing gobs of money over to a bank that supposedly prides itself on its service. We will be glad to have it all done tomorrow and to get our keys tomorrow afternoon. If anyone by chance came to this page researching banks for a home loan... we cannot in good faith recommend Andre Martinez (located in Hillsboro, OR)as a loan officer, and we would not recommend U.S. Bank based on the service we received. We plan on complaining our way up the ladder next week, and if something in the response we receive changes my mind I'll be sure to post it out of fairness. Look forward to some happier posts soon!
